When we were meeting with contractors prior to embarking on our renovation/addition, we could immediately see a difference between Bill Meek and the other three contractors we interviewed – attention to detail.

Of the other three contractors we interviewed, as we did the walk-through of the house and went over the drawings, two did not even take notes, and the third hardly took any notes. A lot of nodding the head, and “We’ve done this sort of thing before” and so on. And these were long-established contractors, active in our neighborhood. Bill on the other hand, took copious notes, and asked a lot of questions. The initial meeting ran over three hours with Bill, whereas the other three took less than an hour. Given the size of the project, we were surprised at the lackadaisical attitude of the other contractors.

The really glaring difference was when we received estimates from the four contractors. Of the four contractors, only Bill Meek provided a detailed estimate, breaking out costs for the major aspects of the project. The others provided ballpark estimates, and came back with a lot of “Well I didn’t include that in the estimate.”

This is our fourth time renovating, and in the past we have found that at the half-completed point, contractors will typically come up with a list of costs not included in their original estimate that blow the original estimate out of the water. Our experience with Bill was different, in that he showed a good grasp of the scope of the project in his estimate.

As the work on the house got underway, our confidence in Bill and his crew grew to the point that we drastically increased the scope of the work. Our original intention had been to get the reno/addition done, and then in 5-10 years undertake to do all the woodwork that would be needed to fulfill our dream. Once we saw the attention to detail and the quality of work that Bill’s crew was capable of, we pushed the final phase of the project forward.

During that time, my wife and I worked closely with Bill on finalizing the details for the woodwork, and Bill did much of the design work for the details himself.

The addition of the finished woodwork greatly expanded the scope of the project, and naturally, the cost. We found Bill to be very communicative throughout the process, keeping us up to date on the evolution of the budget.

We were very pleased with the outcome of the project, and are glad we did the extra work while the renovation was underway. Throughout the process, we appreciated Bill’s calm demeanor, and his flexibility, and the craftsmanship shown by his crew.

William W. Ollerhead & Dr. Kooyeon Chun

We engaged Bill and his firm to demolish and rebuild a main-floor family room addition to our 80 year old home.

From the outset we were reassured by Bill’s attention to detail, especially in creating a budget for the project.

When the project was completed there were no “extras” or overages from things that had been overlooked in the original estimate.

We were pleased with the pleasant and reliable staff, Bill’s attention to detail in design, and an honest collaborative approach to resolving the inevitable issues that arise in such a project.

Our interaction with Bill felt like a true partnership, and not the adversarial type of relationship one often hears of clients having with their contractors.

We would not hesitate to recommend W. C. Meek. Indeed, we hope to engage Bill and his firm again in the future.

Totally professional. Excellent quality. Every single person that came in, across the construction spectrum from painting to renovations, was great, courteous, and respected the property. Would give them six stars, but five is the highest!
